Currently, DiGRAA judges three types of awards. These are the April Tyack’s Distinguished Scholar, the DiGRAA Awards for Best Publication and Best Thesis and the Annual Best Conference Paper Award.
The April Tyack’s DiGRAA Distinguished Scholars are named in honour of DiGRAA’s former Vice President Dr April Tyack, who made our community better. These accolades serve to celebrate Dr April Tyack’s life and her lasting contributions to Antipodean game studies, as well as formally recognise the indispensable but often invisible advocacy and mentorship that defines DiGRAA—what makes, sustains, and grows our community. To be eligible for selection, the academic must be a DiGRA Australia member whose ongoing support has helped cultivate our local game studies talent.
The DiGRAA Awards were introduced in 2023 and recognise the best publication and the best thesis published and conferred respectively by DiGRAA members each year. These awards highlight the quality research and new knowledge generated by the DiGRAA Game Studies community.
Since 2019, each annual DiGRAA conference has selected a best paper. This award is chosen by the local organising committee.
