Call for DiGRA Australia conference hosts

The Digital Games Research Association of Australia (DiGRAA) invites expressions of interest from relevant departments, schools, or centres at Australian and New Zealand universities to host the next DiGRA Australia conferences in February 2028 and 2029.

Prospective hosts should read our guidelines for DiGRA Australia conference hosting, which set out in detail our expectations for the structure, identity and facilities for our conferences, as well as explaining the relationships between the different entities involved in bringing the events together.

The successful host will be selected by the DiGRA Australia board. The board will be guided by the following criteria in making their decision:

  1. The conference organisation should be led by academics at a university with a connection to relevant research and/or teaching in the field of game studies.
  2. The host should be able to provide the necessary institutional support and resourcing to ensure a successful conference.
  3. Following the success of previous DiGRAA conferences, the 2028 and 2029 conferences should have no registration fee and, depending on the ultimate number of submissions, be capable of running a single track for three days.
  4. The host should be able to work with the DiGRAA board to ensure the conference reflects DiGRAA’s values, and that all attendees adhere to the Code of Conduct policy in any conference spaces (whether in person or online) during the conference.
  5. In the event of more than one competitive bid, regions and cities in which a DiGRAA conference has not previously been hosted will be prioritised.

The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday, 20 November.

The Board will decide on a successful host for the 2028 conference in December, with the intent to announce the host at our 2027 conference in February, or our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in March. The Board will simultaneously consider any expressions of interest for the 2029 conference, and will renew this call again next year if there are no interested parties.

Please send expressions of interest that address the above criteria, or any queries, to the DiGRA Australia President, Lawrence May (l.may@auckland.ac.nz).
